What will this post be about?

This post will be a (hopefully) short introduction to my current homelab setup. As I am currently in the middle of moving to my first apartment this post will be written over multiple weeks. There will be “3 main sections” to this post, my current setup, my setup after the move and my wishes/plans for the future.

My current setup

As of this day and age 25-03-2025/31-03-2025, my homelab consists of 6 servers, of which 3 are active and 3 are inactive as of the writing of this post. 1 24x 10Gbit SFP+ switch, my main desktop and 1 working 3D printer. I’ll put the current specs below (when I have time).

3D Printer:

  • Ryzen 9 5900x

HPC server:

Update 27-03-2025

So I just got my new router + fiber optic box, and it’s a stupid media converter. So lucky me, I have to buy a SFP+ transceiver to convert from SFP+ to RJ45. Now that might not seem as a big deal, as it mostly isn’t… But! This costs me an extra €55 just to connect my personal router, how stupid! Now the router they did send me has a 10Gbit LAN port, but that’s also RJ45, and my router only has 10Gbit SFP+ and only 2.5Gbit RJ45. I know this might sound like a rich first world country ramble, but it genuinely pisses me off that fiber optics still aren’t “mainstream”. I get that SFP and SFP+ is slightly more expensive, but the transceivers are lower power, lower heat output and generally have better long distance latency due to using lasers/LEDs.
